Age, gravity effects, sun exposure and the stress of daily life may reflect on the face. Deep folds appear between the nose and the mouth; the jaw line is not straight any more and it dangles; folds and fat deposits appear in the neck.
Face lifting cannot stop this aging process; however, it can "slow the clock", improving the most early visible signs of age by extracting fat excess, the tensing of subjacent muscles, and readapting the face and neck skin.
I find it important to mention that lifting can make you look younger and fresher and boost your self-confidence, but it can never give you a totally different look.
In order to conceal them, incisions are made very near the ears and the scalp. It is worth mentioning that face lifting may be performed alone or together with other procedures, such as eyelid surgery.
This operation lasts around three hours and it is performed with intravenous sedation and local anaesthesia. The patient must stay in hospital for 24 hours and must then wear a bandage which is removed 72 hours after.
Generally, edemas or bruises may appear but they fade away with symptomatic treatment; stitches are removed between the 7th and 15th day.
